Khao Yai in Thailand: the guide for a weekend in the national park

Khao Yai National Park is located near the city of Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The park isn’t exactly close; it’s about 3 hours from Bangkok, and there are several ways to get there:

Getting to Khao Yai National Park by Bus

From Mo Chit bus station in northern Bangkok, buses depart for Pak Chong every half hour. The bus journey takes between 3 and 4 hours (depending on how many passengers there are at the various bus stops).

Getting to Khao Yai National Park by Train

From Hua Lamphong train station. Keep in mind that trains in Thailand are quite slow and therefore take longer than traveling by road.

Getting to Khao Yai National Park by Minivan or Taxi

From Victory Monument, you’ll find minivans that will take you to Pak Chong and perhaps even directly to Khao Yai.

Once you arrive in Pak Chong: The transfer from Pak Chong to Khao Yai takes about 45 minutes, as it’s not exactly close. You can take a taxi, which will be quite expensive. Instead, opt for the very charming minibus, which will cost you less than 50 baht and is easy to find right outside the bus station.

Alternatively, you can rent scooters, which will always be cheaper than a taxi, but this option is more cumbersome than practical for exploring the park.
