My father panned for gold in the shallows, and I spent my days watching the birds, the buffalo, the children playing in the current. Here, water isn’t just a landscape; it’s a source of life. It nourishes, connects, transforms. When the rainy season arrives, everything changes. The river overflows, the paths disappear, the stilt houses seem to float. The Mekong redraws the map, imposes its rhythm, forces adaptation.

For over fifteen years, I’ve been taking travelers to discover this part of Laos. Some come to see, others to understand. I remember a man who, one evening, told me that sailing on the Mekong had made him feel something he had never felt anywhere else. He spoke of slowness, of strength, of presence. I think that’s what the Mekong is all about.
