Day 1: First northern hills and mountain immersion

Early departure from Hanoi towards Northern Vietnam. The road gradually climbs through the valleys of the Red River, revealing rolling landscapes and the first terraced rice paddies. In the afternoon, arrival at the small village of Nam Hong, inhabited by the Red Dao ethnic group. Check-in at a bamboo and thatched mountain lodge perched overlooking the rice paddies. Free time to wander around the village and soak up the peaceful atmosphere and the breathtaking panorama of the sculpted mountains. Dinner and overnight stay at Hoang Su Phi Lodge.

Day 2: Terraced rice paddies and long-tunic Dao villages

After a hearty breakfast, the trek begins, winding through rolling hills and terraced rice paddies. The walk leads to the village of Nam Khoa, inhabited by the Dao Man Ta Pan people. Lunch is enjoyed with a local family before continuing the hike towards Nam Son, amidst lush vegetation. Depending on the season, the paths come alive with rural scenes: rice planting, harvesting, cotton spinning, and indigo dyeing. Meet the Dao people, recognizable by their traditional clothing and distinctive hairstyles. Dinner and overnight stay with a Dao family in a traditional house.

Day 3: Between sky and earth, in the heart of the mountains

Day 4: Sunrise and return to the valley

The final morning of trekking unfolds in a peaceful atmosphere, punctuated by birdsong and the gentle murmur of the rice paddies. The descent offers a final immersion into the heart of the Ban Luoc rice terraces before you return to your vehicle. Lunch in Vinh Quang, then back down into the valley to Panhou Retreat, an ecolodge nestled between mountains and rice paddies. Enjoy a relaxing end to the day in this haven of peace: an infinity pool overlooking the rice paddies, natural hot springs, and an excellent dinner at the hotel restaurant, facing the timeless landscapes of the North.

Day 5: Last morning in your cocoon amidst the rice paddies

Enjoy a final morning in this peaceful retreat, enveloped in light mist and birdsong. Take time for a last soak in the hot springs, breakfast overlooking the rice paddies, or simply a moment of silence by the infinity pool. The pace slows, the mountains watching over you once more before departure. Late morning will bring the departure from Panhou Retreat, and you’ll hit the road to your next destination, your heart at peace and your mind still captivated by the beauty of Northern Vietnam.
