Your afternoon begins with your guide meeting you at your hotel to explore a more intimate side of Bangkok. Far from the skyscrapers and hustle and bustle, you’ll board a longtail boat to navigate the khlongs, the winding canals that crisscross the historic districts. Here, time seems to stand still: houses on stilts, children playing by the water, floating merchants, and discreet temples offer a rare glimpse into local life.

Your first stop is Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, famous for its immense golden Buddha overlooking the city and its interior stupa adorned with celestial frescoes and colorful stained-glass windows. After this spiritual interlude, stroll through the surrounding alleyways, bustling with small markets and family-run shops. You’ll then board the boat again to reach Khlong Bang Luang Artist House, an artistic haven nestled along the canal. In this old wooden house, galleries, studios, and cafes abound.

In the late afternoon, head to Wat Arun, the majestic “Temple of Dawn.” Its shimmering ceramics take on a golden hue in the setting sun. From its steps, the view of the Chao Phraya River is breathtaking. You then cross the river to reach a small, secluded rooftop bar, located directly opposite the temple, ideal for admiring the sunset over Bangkok, cocktail in hand.

Once night falls, the atmosphere changes. You depart for Chinatown, one of the city’s most vibrant districts. On the agenda: a street food tour led by your guide, amidst steaming stalls, the aroma of stir-fried noodles, and sweet treats. You sample a variety of local specialties while observing the constant flow of scooters, vendors, and colorful neon lights. For the more curious, the evening can be extended to Soi Nana, just a stone’s throw away: an eclectic neighborhood, with its cocktail bars installed in former shophouses and its bohemian atmosphere.
