Day 1: First steps in the north, between the river and secret temples
Arrive in Phitsanulok in the early afternoon. Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport before taking you to explore this unassuming town nestled on the banks of the Nan River. Less frequented by tourists, Phitsanulok reveals an authentic side of Thailand: bustling markets, golden temples, and scenes of local life unfolding at the river’s peaceful pace. You will visit several iconic shrines, including Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, home to one of the country’s most beautiful Buddhas. Overnight in Phitsanulok, enjoying its gentle, provincial atmosphere.

Day 2: Journey to the heights and sacred temples
After a leisurely breakfast, depart mid-morning for the Phetchabun Mountains. En route, make your first stop at the perched temple of Khao Samp Klang, modest yet serene, before continuing to Namtok Kaeng Song, a stunning spot where Thais come to enjoy lunch with their feet in the water. Savor a simple yet delicious meal in floating bamboo pavilions, shaded by hundreds of colorful umbrellas. The atmosphere is joyful and authentically local. In the late afternoon, arrive near Wat Phra Sorn Kaew, a temple perched atop a mountain, renowned for its dazzling architecture and shimmering mosaics. Check into your nearby accommodation and take the opportunity to ascend to the temple to admire the sunset over the hills.

Day 3: Spiritual dawn and night suspended at the summit
At the first light of dawn, Wat Phra Sorn Kaew reveals itself in all its splendor: a mystical vision between mist and light. This temple, with its five superimposed white Buddhas, dominates the valley and seems to float in the clouds. The morning light makes each mosaic shimmer, transforming the place into a celestial jewel. After the visit, departure for Suan Hin Pha Ngam National Park, nicknamed the “Little Kunming” of Thailand for its spectacular rock formations. In the late afternoon, you begin an adventurous climb; ladders, walkways, and narrow paths lead to the summit. There, on a wooden platform perched between the peaks, your campsite awaits. Enjoy a simple dinner facing the sunset over the mountains, then spend the night in a magical tent in absolute silence, above the clouds.

Day 4: Sunrise and return to the valley
Wake up before dawn to admire an unforgettable sunrise over the Phitsanulok mountains. Mist dances among the rocks, the sky blazes with golden hues, and nature slowly awakens. After a light breakfast high in the mountains, you descend back down to the valley. On the return journey, a few stops in rice paddies and at small rural temples allow you to prolong this authentic immersion. Return to Phitsanulok in the late morning, then transfer to your next destination or flight.

When is the best time to experience this adventure?
The ideal time to go is from December to April, when the climate is dry and the trails are easily accessible. The days offer beautiful light and pleasant temperatures for hiking, while the nights remain cool at altitude, perfect for a comfortable bivouac.
Is this experience suitable for families?
Not really. The climb to the high-altitude campsite requires a good level of fitness and can be difficult for children under 15. However, it's perfectly possible to adapt the itinerary: sleep in the valley and enjoy a gentler hike in the mountains, ideal for sharing the adventure as a family.

Is the climb up to the campsite dangerous?

What if the weather doesn't allow us to go up?
In case of rain or thick fog, the ascent is not permitted for safety reasons, as the rocks become slippery. In this case, an alternative overnight stay in the valley will be offered, in superb, charming accommodations with mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere.
